Here is your online assignment. You will be working as a class and in partners to complete it. Read all the directions for each number FIRST before clicking on the link.
WORK AS A CLASS:
- Study this challenging BrainPop video about Geometry... You'll really need to pay attention-- it's tough! After you watch, do the REVIEW quiz together as a class AND follow along on your paper version of the quiz.
- Study this BrainPop video about Lines in Geometry... This one's not quite as hard... Concentrate on the differences between and the definitions of parallel, intersecting, and perpendicular lines. After you watch, do the REVIEW quiz together as a class AND follow along on your paper version of the quiz.
- Next you'll visit this Study Jam about Lines. When you get there, check out the slideshow first. Talk about each photo and see if you can identify the different types of lines. Then do the "Test Yourself" as a class. Finish off with some fun-- sing karaoke (Ms. Chalou has the lyrics on paper too). But remember to KEEP THE VOLUME DOWN to be respectful of our neighbors.
- Can you believe it? There are even more fun songs about lines! If you've done a good job keeping the volume at a respectful level, Ms. Chalou will lead you in these songs too-- she's got the lyrics to pass out. This one has some dance moves with it: "Parallel or Perpendicular" by Rockin the Standards. It's just a clip-- we'll sing the full version when Ms. B. returns. This one has the full music video online: "So Many Lines" by the Rappin' Mathematician.
- Finally, as a whole group, you'll learn about line symmetry using this Links Learning lesson in order to prepare for your next Math project.
You will be working with the same partner(s) as you did for your multiplication 4 ways project. Be sure to spread out around the classroom, so that everyone has enough space to work and partners can hear each other. People WILL need to switch desks to make this work. Here is your to-do list... REMEMBER: Read ALL the directions first BEFORE you click on the link.
- If you haven't finished it yet, finish your multiplication 4 ways project. Be sure to study the example on the board.
- You and your partner will need ONE laptop. Sit next to each other (shoulder to shoulder) at two desks. Take turns using the mouse. Your first job is to do this Study Jam on Line Symmetry. First do the Step-by-Step, then do the Test Yourself.
- Next, you'll visit this Annenberg lesson about Symmetry in Quilts. This one's tough-- so you'll have to really pay attention and work together. Buddy read the text and discuss it as you go to make sure that you understand. (HINT: Draw imaginary lines of symmetry with your finger to see how they work.) Click on the underlined text ("four kinds of symmetry" then "Go!" and then "Make a quilt block!"). You're not done until you've built each type of quilt: H, M, B, S.
- Now you can shut down you computer and put it away, the next two items on the to-do list are paper based.
