Your First Online Assignment: Ecosystems!

Good morning class!

Welcome to your first blog assignment!

We've already visited with Mr. Bill Nye on the subject of Food Webs. Today we're going to continue our ecological research with some online activities. We'll check in with Tim and Moby to see what they have to say on the subject. You're going to watch 3 BrainPop videos, take a quiz on each, and draw quality pictures/diagrams to describe what you've learned. You've got a packet of all the materials you'll need. The diagrams you create will become a part of your science notebook, which will be a record of what you've studied this year. It will also help you study for your future tests/quizzes.

REMEMBER: In order to use BrainPop, you need to login-- username: tjelem, password: tiger. (Note: TJ's membership will only work during school hours).

SONG!: Mr. Duey's Long Division Rap

Lyrics – Long Division

Verse 1
Mr.Duey exclusive. This is what you been waiting for.
Better than the best on the planet. You know.
Draw a line up to the right take the number you dividing by.
Put that number to the left of the line. Now put the number you
dividing with inside of it, setting up long division if you listen that’s the
bottom line of it. Now try to get this answer to this problem that
I about to give, 390 divided by 6. Now the 6 wont fix into 3 but if fits
into 39, 6 times. Put the 6 above the 9. Now take the 6 multiply it by
the number you divided by. Gives you 36 write it right below the 39.
Subtract that, that’s 3 bring the 0 down.. right! And see that 6 goes
into 30 perfectly 5 times. Put the 5 by the 6 on the top of the line.
And see that 6 goes into 390, 65 times. Put some time behind to
comprehend the rhyme I designed. To understand it’s long division
at the drop of a dime.

option. Drop a decimal, drop it like it’s hot finish the problem. Remember
5 to the left of the line, 82 inside and see how many times it will divide.
The 5 fits into 8 just 1 time. Put the 1 above the 8 and multiply
it by 5 and 1 x 5 is 5, put it right below the eight
subtract them giving you 3 then bring the 2 down. Giving you 32, dirty.
and 5 goes into that 6 times, 6 x 5 is 30. Subtract 30 from 32, that gives
you 2 and then what you do is real simple, I will explain it to you.
Drop a decimal in your answer and your problem, add a 0, drop it down
to the 2 and solve them. and 5 goes into 20 evenly 4 times, 16.4 dividing
82 by 5. Take some time to comprehend the rhyme I design
To understand it’s long division at the drop of a dime.

number is bigger than the bottom so when you take the bottom fit
it into the top one. So say that the bottom is 3 and the top can be
17. How many times does 3 fit in between? Well let’s see, that’s
5 take the 5 write it down big on the line. With the 2 left over from
the 17 you must now put that 2 on top of the 3 and, wow, the
mixed number is found. It’s that easy, listen to the song and you

Fractions, I bet you wonder how to get a percentage, divide the
top by the bottom number. For example, 5 over 10. 10 can’t go
into 5 so add a zero to the 5 and begin. Because 10 can go into
to 50 just fine, but you need a decimal point before the number of
times. So I, I guess we’re left with ‘.5’. Now take the point by the
5, move it 2 to the right and what you have is 50 so it’s 50
percent. When Mr. Duey takes you through it then it all makes
sense. It’s that easy, listen to the song and you believe me, put
your own numbers in the place of what I’m teaching.
